At Water Camp, we believe every trip should be an adventure, especially when you’re exploring the beautiful Torch Lake. We want to help you find the experiences that really capture what makes this place special. We’ve put together a laid-back bucket list of activities that showcase the best of Torch Lake. Whether you’re into fun on the water, relaxing by the shore, or checking out the local scene, our suggestions will help you make the most of your time here. Let’s dive into planning an amazing Water Camp getaway!
Torch Lake is beloved for its famous turquoise waters. What better way is there to soak in the beauty of the area than on the water? Try renting a boat from the many boat rental companies nearby. One of our favorites, Butch’s, offers both jet skis and pontoons and is conveniently located only 5 minutes from Water Camp. The only additional charge will be for the gas you use on your adventure. So pack your favorite snacks and drinks and enjoy your day of sunshine and fun.
One of the best ways to soak in the natural beauty around Torch Lake is to hit the trails and spend time outdoors. Water Camp is lucky to be surrounded by great hiking areas that cater to families and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Just a short drive from Alden, MI, you can explore several scenic spots perfect for hiking, like the trails at Grass River Natural Area, Antrim Creek Natural Area, and Glacial Hills. Each offers a unique experience, with Glacial Hills featuring varied terrain and breathtaking vistas. So grab your hiking boots and get ready for some exploration!
Northern Michigan is known for its wineries and checking out some of our favorites is a must-do. Stop by BOS Wine Garden in Elk Rapids where you can drop in for wine tasting or reserve a spot for a guided wine tasting experience. A half-hour drive away is the beautiful Water Fire Wine where you can experience Michigan’s first sustainable vineyard for yourself.
Or, for a friendly nearby option, try Torch Lake Cellars, where you can buy a bucket of golf balls to hit into the valley overlooking Lake Bellaire while kids play on the playground or run around in the open grass area.
What’s a vacation without great food? Luckily, Water Camp is surrounded by some of the very best. Your visit simply wouldn’t be complete without checking out our local restaurants, I can attest, that they’re delicious! Corner Bistro in Bellaire, Short’s Brewing Company’s Bellaire Pub, Muffin Tin in Alden are just a few of our favorites.
If you want to indulge in Traverse City’s award-winning food scene, try Modern Bird, Cook’s House, Frank’s 231 or Farm Club.
